First Night: A Whole New Whole New World?

[The bed seems off somehow. It's dark, but somehow the feel of it is off.

His hand stretches out and brushes against something furry. Abu must have fallen asleep on his bed again. He quickly pulls his hand back to avoid waking him, then pushes himself up off the bed. This is definitely not his bed.

He tries to crawl out of the bed... and his hand hits warm fur. A lot of it. Attached to something... big.

Very, very big.

So, he, being the stalwart hero he is, does what any brave, calm, resolute hero does. He yelps and jumps out of that bed like it was on fire.]

[Later in the day, Aladdin can be found wandering around the village, staring in awe at everything he finds and generally looking as much like a new feather as one possibly can. Feel free to chat, or if you're feeling more malicious, feel free to test your deviousness.

Alternatively, there is a certain tiny thieving monkey running around, and Aladdin hasn't been united with him juuuuust yet. He may or may not grab anything shiny.]

[Abu stares at Momo, fascinated, then spreads his own arms with a frown. Nothing remotely wing-like under his.]

"So how long have you been here, Aang?"

[Aang gives a nervous grin.]

Don't freak out, but... it's kind of been about a year and a half now.

[Momo eventually makes his way down and holds out his hand, offering to give Abu a lift.]

Oh, that. It's a martial arts technique from my world. It uses ki - natural life force energy in the body.

[She should probably tell him about some of the other abilities he might encounter around here, although he's keeping an open mind about it. That's good.]

"I could be here away from my friends for that long?"

[Life force energy? That you could- but that sounded like...]

"Is that like magic?"

It was too late, Aladdin. Jack was already cocking his pistol and taking aim at the wretched runaway creature.

"Sorry. I want to hurt him very much."

[onejump]

"No!"

[Aladdin doesn't even know what that thing is, but he's not about to let it get at Abu. He dives at the gun, trying to wrestle it from Jack's grip.

Abu, meanwhile, seems to have taken the comment about wanting to hurt it a bit personally. Tossing Jack's hat aside, he scurries back toward the pair, oblivious to what Jack's pistol could do to him.]

When Yon's alarmed, he switches to HTML-y stuff.

"Oi! Leggo! Leggo my gun, guttersnipe!"

Jack tries to wrestle right back. Wrestling is REALLY not his thing, what with the weird close contact and touching and all, but there is really no choice here. It's his gun and there's a monkey to shoot.

No, just when he's not paying attention. HERP DERP

"I'm not letting you shoot my friend over a hat!"

And he still doesn't know what shooting is. But he'll have NONE OF IT.

Now moving far faster without the burden of the hat, Abu wastes no time in returning to the struggling pair, and he leaps onto Jack's leg.

Um...sort of but not really. Every living being has at least a little tiny bit of ki. Martial artists who push themselves to their limits have way more than normal people.

[She tries to think of what else she can give as an example.]

Have you ever heard of warriors that can make themselves handle pain better through meditation?

And then much leg shaking and stomping commenced, which was a handy distraction from the wrestling.

[He's never really talked to a lot of warriors, since he never considered himself a warrior. But he thinks about it. It sounds like something he's seen before. In fact, the fakirs who sat on nail beds in the marketplace said something similar.]

"I've heard something like that, yeah."

That's one way of using ki, only the people using it aren't really aware that it's what they're tapping into. If you know what you're doing with it, you can do a whole lot more...and it grows with training and practice.

[She pauses.]

Of course, some people just have powers. The Malnosso are able to pull people from all over - even different worlds.

[He's a little bitter about the rude awakening and the loud noise, but it's still the truth. Beast is pretty blunt about the state of Luceti anyway.]

If he's that much trouble, why don't you put a leash on him? A friend told me that some people do that to their pet dogs.

[ Kakashi glares at the monkey and finally sighs, reaching into his utility pack for a length of rope, which he ties to a shuriken. It should be fairly easy to actually catch the monkey with this, all things considered. (He's caught grown men in far more complicated traps, but those tend to be more lethal.)

Rotating the shuriken between his fingers, he tosses it with every intent of having it loop back around to him. The rope should catch around the monkey's stomach and make it easy for him to tug the little creature down from the tree without hurting him. ]

That is... difficult to explain.

However, the simplest way is to understand who I am. I am Commander Spock, serving aboard the Starship Enterprise. It is an constellation class exploration vessel that has the capacity to travel at speeds faster than light.

[Spock looks at Aladdin... did you catch any of that?]

"... Starship? Like a ship that goes to the stars?"

[That's even possible?

Of course, he's reminded once again of Genie. Genie had done such things before, but Genie was... a special case. Aladdin had never realized just how many of the things Genie did were possible to normal humans.]

"And a... Commander. Are you a soldier?"

[onejump]

The leg shakes and stomps and stamps, and the monkey is undeterred, climbing swiftly along Captain Jack Sparrow's back.

Aladdin, meanwhile, is still trying to wrest the pistol from the pirate's grasp. Unfamiliar with the mechanics of a pistol, and having in fact never so much as laid eyes on one before, he has no idea how to handle a gun safely, but he's still trying, bless his heart.

"Training and practice?"

[That almost sounded like a challenge- but one for another day. Right now he's still in exciting-new-discovery mode.]

"So can a lot of people around here do stuff like that? So far I've just talked to the people whose house I woke up in- an ordinary girl and a big furry guy with horns."

[onejump]

"A leash?"

[Aladdin looks genuinely indignant now.]

"He's not my pet, he's my friend! I won't put a leash on him!"

[Not that there's much point, really. Abu would probably slip the thing in five seconds flat.]

[The monkey wasn't expecting that. He figured it would be thrown straight at him, but the trap actually tricks him, and he winds up snared by the rope trick, letting out a squeaky yelp of surprise and indignation as he's pulled off balance and out of the tree.

Aladdin's search, meanwhile, brings him closer and closer to the pair, and he definitely heard that. He's glancing around more urgently as he runs toward the noise.]

"Abu? Is that you, buddy?"

How wonderful.

[and she speaks warmly, since a monkey having your back has an almost bittersweet ring to it. The hand disappears into shifting petals and she stands, closing the book she was reading]

Well, there are people with all different kinds of abilities. Some have superhuman strength or speed, or can use magic...

[Just to name a few. Those are the ones that come to mind off the top of her head.]
